The yuletide spirit was still apparent on this 8th day of January 2006, as people prepared to depart from the small church to the reception venue. The Thanksgiving service was just ending as we arrived. In our company were Obinna and my mother-in-law. There was also little Chinwe, my wife's cousin, who would be going back with Lora from here to Lagos.
This was Lora and Ifeanyi's party, and the reception was the opening of their new country home. It was our first official outing since getting married; it was also our first outing this new year.
The journey from Enugu to Ndiowu lasted roughly two hours. It was an easy ride as we left the Enugu-Onitsha express road; passed through Awka - Agulu - Nanka - Ekwulobia - Oko - Amaokpara, and on to Ndiowu. A sleepy little town in Orumba, we saw the menace posed by soil erosion, here and there, all along the way. How long do the authorities have to wait before somebody does something?
Tina had schooled at the Polytechnic in Oko, so she was quite conversant with the terrain as she manouvered us easily through the local roads. She also pointed us to the domain of the former vice president, Chief Alex Ekwueme, which was easy to behold as we passed by the Chalk Valley estate.
Lora and Dr Ifeanyi were quite happy to see us arrive safely at their new home: an imposing edifice, unique in design and style: a commendable effort. Just as "in my father's house there are many mansions", this is another one to give God plenty of glory!
Well done, Doc!
